Dear Friends,
Following discussions at MedRen and similar events, many PGRs working on different aspects of Medieval and Renaissance English music expressed a desire to work more closely, seek collaboration, and to find ways to share our research with each other in a PGR-specific environment. Newcastle University Music Department will be fortunate to be host two visiting PhD students in Spring 2024, and Dr Kerry McCarthy will be delivering a talk on 21 February as part of the department’s seminar series.
We are capitalising on these opportunities with a PGR symposium on 20-21 February 2024, at Newcastle University, Armstrong Building, Keeton Lomas Lecture Theatre. Timings are provisional until we know how many submissions we will receive, but this is the current plan
- c. 13:00-16:30 on Tuesday 20 February
- Possible Tudor Evensong at Cathedral from 5.30pm
- 10:00-17:30* on Wednesday 21 February
- Dr Kerry McCarthy will be speaking at the music department’s seminar series from 16:00, everyone attending this event would be welcome to attend this talk as well!
The CfPs is currently open. Proposals can be submitted here: https://forms.gle/pCaM6xVUraPwRT5h9
Deadline for submissions is Friday 15 December. If there are any problems with this deadline, or you have any questions or specifics you would like to discuss, please do get in touch: m.winter@newcastle.ac.uk. If you are not a PGR, but would still like to attend, please also get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Michael Winter
PhD Student, Newcastle University.
