In line with its commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, the Royal Musical Association is looking to co-opt a maximum of two members of Council for a period of 2 years, starting 1st Jan 2022.
We are looking for members who would bring expertise and perspectives not currently covered in the Council membership. This applies at the level of sub-disciplinary expertise but also any other category by which ‘diversity’ might reasonably be considered. In terms of areas of expertise, we are interested in hearing from individuals working in one or more of the following areas: Music Technology, Ethnomusicology, Music Performance (any genre or tradition) , Music Education, Musical Theatre, Music and Health, Music and Disability, and Music Business/Industry. The level of personal characteristics is naturally far more complex. We are aware of a particular lack of representation in terms of visible disability, racial diversity, trans and non-binary perspectives, class … we are equally aware that not all diversity is visible, and many other valuable perspectives are in need of further amplification.
If you are interested in being considered, please submit a 300 word statement to include the following (please write in the first person and avoid bullet points):
- Name and current occupation/role
- Relevant previous positions
- Short résumé of research
- Administrative experience; committee positions held
- Personal statement: this is the most important part of the document and should set out what you’d hope to contribute as a member of Council.
Nominees do not need to be RMA members, but if selected for Council would be required to join.
Nominations should be sent to Professor Laudan Nooshin, RMA Vice President and Chair of the EDI Working Group (l.nooshin@city.ac.uk), by 4pm on Wednesday 3rd November 2021.
